Since studying Ancient Egyptian medicine from textbooks some 20 years ago, Peter Uzelac discovered some intriguing facts about the methods they used, and the types of ingredients they combined to make different preparations for different ailments. He noted that herb extracts would only dilute into certain substances that are used as carriers, and they used pigs’ fat, and the fat of other living creatures. He found that petroleum jelly was a good substitute for diluting herbs into, and a good carrier. Petroleum jelly has been used in medical preparations for over 100 years and he still has some old half-filled jars that he purchased at various second-hand shops, some with their original labels intact.
